St David's Day greeting from our President

General News

Greetings to everyone on St. David's Day, as we take pride in our old country on the Day of our Patron Saint.

As you know The Welsh Society of WA held a lunch to commemorate St David at the Mallard Duck Restaurant in the Swan Valley last Saturday, those who attended enjoyed quality food and service in pleasant surroundings, and of course meeting and chatting to other people who hail from, or have some connection to Wales.

On Sunday evening the Anglican St. George's Cathedral held a service with a special emphasis on St. David and Wales, with readings and collects in Welsh, and hymns with a Welsh origin and finishing with the Welsh National Anthem.

The final Literary Competitions were held this year, and as usual we announce the winners on St. David's Day. The winners are :-

LIMERICK COMPETITION -  Winner  "Ty'n Ffynon" (Brian Walley)

There once was a runner named Wright

Who could speed even faster than light.

He set out one day

In a relative way

To prove it he sped out of sight.

POETRY COMPETITION - Winner "In the Beginning" by "Dai Ddynbych" (Brian Walley)

SHORT STORY COMPETITION - Winner "Cymraeg" by "Sais" (Brian Walley)

Congratulation to Brian Walley for winning all three categories in 2017, the engraved shields will be with him very soon.

Our best wishes go to Pat Price, recently taken to Joondalup Hospital after a fall, we wish her a speedy recovery.

Greetings and best wishes have recently been received from Myra Olsson, Moira McLaren, and Margaret Edwards, and we pass them on to all our members. Although unable to attend our meetings, we are in their thoughts and they are remembered in high esteem and fondness by the Society.

Best Regards
